Good News, Bad News
Good News: We are getting satellite tv service installed today! Woo-hoo!
Bad News: The installation guys have to access the attic. The attic door is in my closet. Which means I can’t leave my bras hanging on the closet doorknob like I usually do.
Good News: I took a whole day off. I’ll pretty much have the house to myself (aside from the installation guys!). I can sleep, work on school stuff UNINTERUPTED!
Bad News: Buck, who NEVER gets sick, decides to be sick enough to have to stay home TODAY! And Goob, who has never missed a day of work or been late, decides to quit early since he’s leaving for the Army in six days, and is thus home today also. ARRGHH! Where’s my peace and quiet?
Speaking of the Army: I would pay GOOD MONEY for video of Goob’s first few days of boot camp. Good money. It would be sweet satisfaction to know that after weeks of throwing convention up in our faces, and not giving a crap about responsibilities or having ANY consideration of others, that he can’t even take a crap without permission.
Goob loves to read Japanese Anime’/Manga. I know he has several he reads online. I told him to email the links and I would mail copies of the serialized comics to him while he was at bootcamp. He never did send it to me. Actually, he goes to his Dad and asks him to send the copies because Goob can’t have me send it to him. Why???? Because in one of them, it’s about a pair of lesbians, one of whom fights crime by using a giant dildo to beat up folks. BR basically told him he wouldn’t do any such thing, although it would serve Goob right to have the DIs find them.
Gahhh…I could go on and on about Goob. I won’t. Just suffice it to say that the above incident is one of the lesser of the offensive things he’s attempted in the past month and a-half. It’s part normal teen vs. adult and part anxiety about leaving. I understand that. But I would still love just a few video clips. He thinks I’m a bitch??? Bwah-haaa-haaa-haaa….just wait till the DIs get ahold of him. Wait till he has to crawl in the mud (he hates getting his hands dirty). Just wait till he has to MAKE HIS BED! EVERY MORNING!! Just wait till he can’t sleep past noon and has to get up early EVERY MORNING!!! Just wait for a whole new meaning of ‘being a Man’ to kick in and he actually, finally, grows up some.

Oh… see, now I’m picturing him as Gomer Pyle and the DI as Sgt. Carter. Goob won’t be nearly as happy as Gomer…. LOL!

After Goob’s Basic, don’t be surprised if the young man comes home with new-found courteousness: “Yes, ma’am, no ma’am, etc.” (Somehow you’ll cope with having a respectful son, I’m sure.)

Where’s R. Lee Ermey and Lou Gossett Jr. when you need them? Hoping he’ll encounter manifestations of both of them in boot camp and come out much better for the wear. And with a newfound respect for himself and his family. I just wish a couple of my kids would have gone that route.

Pam: I would be happy if he was more Gomer-esque.
Bob: I’m keeping my fingers crossed for exactly that.
Bob A: Looking forward to a newly-respectful Goob!
DDave: This was the best thing the Goobster could have chosen to do…he was on a road to nowhere. Honestly, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he passes the drug test. He’s made just enough stupid choices that we fear that was one of them.

Next time you talk to him, tell him I said “don’t be first, don’t be last, and don’t volunteer”.
