The New Star Trek Movie

Rocks. Totally. Excellent job merging TOS with modern FX.

And it made me sad; a passing of an era. Watching the movie tonight brought back the excitement I felt as a child sitting down with my dad to watch TOS way back when. When the future held all possibilities, and I dreamed of being on a starship. I wanted to be either Uhura, or Nurse Chapel. Just to be flying through space, exploring the vast unknown.

At one point of the movie, the Enterprise majestically arose through a cloud of space dust; quite a breath-taking scene. Seeing the old classic lines of the vessel that once made my imagination take flight made me ache for the dreams I once had. Dreams that will go irrevocably unfulfilled. I’ll never be an astronaut…never even write great science fiction…

So this particular dream of mine will never be realized. Things change, and life never quite takes the path you hoped it would. And the Star Trek movie took a different line than I was used to. It’s taking a different path now, just as my life took a different path.  And it’s okay.   Good even.  Different, but good just the same.  Lots of breath-taking moments that make the changes worth it.

If you remember ST:TOS, you owe it to yourself to see the new movie.  It will be different, but worth it.

Oh, yes. Love Star Trek, the original crew… Netflix has TOS so I’m starting at the beginning. Just watched the very first episode last night and they were all so very young… Hard to believe Shatner just turned 78!

I want to see the new film, but will probably wait until it comes out on DVD.

My sister was around 7 when she decided she was going to name her first child Ensign, since she adored Chekov and that was obviously his first name. :)
We’re going to go see it next week, after the shiny has worn off a bit and the yapping audience-demons have hopefully moved on.

Pam: We’ll probably go see it again…and then own it on DVD!

LeeAnn: Your sister is my kind of Trekkor. And when we went to see it, it was mostly older folks who remember it from the first time ’round. It was neat listening to them as they recognized hat-tips to TOS.

Seeing if I can convince the wife to go to a matinee on one of her days off. And make room in the budget for it.

DD: Gahh! I know what you mean about the budget. For a family of four, with snacks and all, cost around $60. It’s why we so rarely, rarely go out to movies.

hubby and kid went to see it on the IMAX screen Thursday night. I saw it today ::cough cough cough:: um, not in the theater. I realize I’m in the minority when I say it was just okay. Not mind blowing like I kept hearing it would be. Then again, I’m sure on IMAX, it is mind blowing. But still, I have a 52″ widescreen, so it’s not like I was watching it ::cough:: on my computer or anything. ::cough:: I think I would have been pissed if we had spent $45 instead of just $30 to see it in the theater. I used my $15 on liquor, instead!

damn… now I’m feeling paranoid. Any way you can make my comment anonymous and get rid of my picture? And then delete this one, too?

We went to see it last night, but the theatre was packed, so we ended up seeing X-Men: Wolverine, instead… omg bad choice.

Mrs. Who, I could have written your post word-for-word. We’ll probably see it again in the theater.
