Oh, fudge…

Oh, fudge...

You see that pink area along Florida/Alabama? Where I work and live?
It’s going to get mighty wet.

And actually, folks, this may sound sadistic, but I’d rather have Ida come through as Cat1 than the level below, a Tropical Storm. That’s because a TS is slower and dumps lots and lots and lots and lots and lots more rain. A hurricane will have more speed and move through the area quickly.

They just damn well better close the schools, because I ain’t driving across umpteen creeks and the bay in a Tropical Storm. Flash flooding will take out so many people in situations like that. Not too many years ago, a TS blew up on the coast over night, and I wound up (unknowingly) driving to school in the middle of it. The bay was up and covering the road in many places. The wind was so loud that I could barely hear the radio at full blast. The particular highway I was on is bordered on the opposite side by a big swamp. There was no turning around. And that’s why I drive an SUV. I made it through the flooded roads without a problem. Fortunately, it was daylight and you could see the roads…otherwise I would not have gone. Not even half the students made it to school. Parents would call me, asking if the school was open. I told them it was, but to keep their child safe. So many cars that day were flooded out because this particular storm came out of nowhere.

I just hope the school board errs on the side of caution and closes the school on Tuesday. It’s just too risky.

I have to drive back to Georgia on Wednesday (through Arkansas, N. Miss, and N. Alabama). Hopefully it won’t be too wet and wild then.

Thank God for SUVs! You’d get swamped in a lesser vehicle. Though I did drive through a blizzard in OK in a little front wheel drive Subaru named George. ;)

    Hope they close the schools!

DD: Yeah, it should be okay by then. It’s supposed to fizzle out as it heads east.

Pam: I hate snow. But you had front-wheel drive in the snow. But a blizzard??? Yowza.
