Lost souls swimming…

Recently in my hometown there was a shooting that resulted in a death. It looks drug related.

I’m pretty sure that one of those arrested in the case is a former student. The mugshot was online…yeah…same lost expression that I remember.

One of those kids that never had a chance. He struggled in school, and didn’t have the support at home.

Sad thing is…he’s not the only former student that ran into trouble with the law. Another one died last year, after having a string of arrests. Don’t know what caused his particular death, but dammit, he was only in his early 20s.

It’s just so sad…they are such young children when I teach them…but some of them you just ‘know’ that they won’t have much of a life. And there is very, very little you can do about it.

All children can’t be prevented from falling through the cracks, but some always do. Their lot in life is far from idealistic and they seem to be destined to become the dregs of society; their fate is never envied.

Two people I grew up with died from the lifestyle they chose when they were children. Both, from what I could see, had families that struggled with abuse and they reacted by following a path that started with bullying, which led to their demise. One was shot cheating in a poker game and the other had their skull crushed by a tire tool. The latter, while beating a man, was killed by the girlfriend that refused to allow the beating.
